It also includes Assault Squad 2: Men of War Origins, a DLC that provides the first Men of War game within the newer framework. The War Chest Edition features the main game plus the Airborne, Ostfront Veteranen and Iron Fist add-ons which are well worth playing. It comes on a disc but can, thankfully, be installed digitally just using the Steam code inside the case and downloading, so no need for a disc drive and, I guess, you have a free Men of War: Assault Squad 2 themed drinks coaster to boot! The game case this arrived in was impressively large, mostly taken up by the huge manual. Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is a fairly old game by current standards but this great edition brings it bang up-to-date and shows off just what a great game it always was. There's so much I feel I haven't discovered in the game – there are after all so many options with the DLCs included – but I'm happy to recommend it to anyone who is willing to put in the time with it. I'm not a recently experienced gamer - though this was the kind of game I enjoyed when I was much more actively committed – so it's huge number of functions and options were both bewildering and absorbing I've only played the one-player mode – I'm frankly not good enough to engage with other players at this stage – but I am impressed with the level of detail and realism it's a good deal more sophisticated than any RTS I've played in the past even though I'm told by more current gamers that this is regarded as long in the tooth now.Įven so, my own opinion is that this is is a pretty good game once one gets to grips with the controls it's fun and very immersive the AI can be a bit dumb, but as one advances in skill it makes for an entertaining experience and the graphics are great. The game can be installed easily enough (you will require a Steam account to run it) but the complexity of the management system takes a lot of time and commitment to learn and negotiate effectively (I was grateful to find many useful tutorials online). It's taken me some while to get around to reviewing this as it's a huge RTS/tactical game with a pretty steep learning curve. Pretty sure you won't be disappointed, just be prepared to take time to scope out the game properly so you can get the most enjoyable gaming experience. If you love RTS games but haven't been impressed with what's on offer on the WWII scene out there, then give this a try. In this set there is also the DLC packs, which also add even more content. All the buildings can be destroyed with the right type of units, and it really makes the game a lot more realistic, but it also adds a welcome layer of complexity to the game play. What I really enjoy most about this particular RTS game is that the environment and maps can also affect the game. There are also multiplayer options, 1v1,4v4 and even 8v8, and some of the maps are just huge. The content available is huge, and the game isnt easy to play, as the battle are fast, furious and incredibly diverse in the sense of the sheer amount of units available that can drastically shape the battle for you, or against you. Since I last played I have the latest top spec ATI graphics card, which has really improved the graphical experience playing this game. During lockdown it has given me another opportunity to play the game again. I installed this game when I first received it, but I struggled to get into the game due to the significant game features and functions there are to learn.
